Prediagnostic circulating inflammation-related biomarkers and gastric cancer: A case-cohort study in Japan
Cytokine May 13, 2021
Camargo MC, Song M, Sawada N, et al. - Researchers examined risk associations of gastric cancer with a broad range of systemic soluble inflammation as well as immune-response proteins, in this case-cohort study within the JPHC Study II, incorporating a subcohort of 410 participants identified randomly within defined age and gender groups, as well as 414 people with incident gastric malignancy. There were 73 evaluable biomarkers, of those, three (CCL11, CCL20 and IL17C) were found to be related to elevated gastric cancer risk and two (CCL23 and MMP1) with decreased cancer risk. However, following a false discovery rate correction, no link was statistically significant. This work largely expands the range of inflammation molecules assessed for gastric malignancy risk but failed to generate novel links with this neoplasia.
