Prediagnosis body mass index, physical activity and ovarian cancer mortality
Gynecologic Oncology Aug 07, 2019
Zamorano AS, Hagemann AR, Morrison L, et al. - Using prospectively gathered data from women who developed ovarian cancer following the entry into the NIH-AARP Diet and Health Study, researchers determined how ovarian cancer mortality is influenced by prediagnosis BMI and physical activity. Via linkage state cancer registries, they determined cancer incidence. This study included 741 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer. Findings revealed increased mortality among women who were obese before developing ovarian cancer vs women who were normal weight, but there was no link between physical activity before diagnosis and mortality. A powerful preventative tool is to maintain a healthy weight.
