Prediabetes is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease following renal transplantation
Kidney International Aug 20, 2019
Porrini E, Díaz JM, Moreso F, et al. - Among 603 renal transplant patients, researchers investigated how cardiovascular disease is influenced by prediabetes. The participants were observed for up to five years, via repeated oral glucose tests and a long term survival assessment was performed. They reported 73 cardiovascular events. Compared with normal individuals, a significantly higher incidence of events was reported in patients with either prediabetes, or post-transplant diabetes mellitus. Among renal transplant patients who represent a population at high risk for cardiovascular events, prediabetes was identified as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
