Prediabetes and cardiovascular disease risk: A nested case-control study
Atherosclerosis Sep 13, 2018
Hu H, et al. - This nested case-control study collected data from the Japan Epidemiology Collaboration on Occupational Health Study and analyzed 197 registered cases of cardiovascular disease (CVD) to determine the risk of CVD with persistent prediabetes during the last four years prior to a CVD event. Identified cases of CVD were matched individually with 985 controls according to age, sex, and worksite. Conditional logistic regression models were used to evaluate the links between prediabetes and CVD risk. Findings showed an increased risk of CVD in relation to prediabetes, highlighting the important need for identification and management of prediabetes for the prevention of CVD.
