Preconception and interconception pediatric primary care utilization of pregnant and parenting teens
Journal of Adolescent Health Jan 22, 2021
Gregory EF, et al. - Since preventive care disparities can lead to adverse outcomes among pregnant teens, researchers sought to quantify teen preventive care utilization before and after pregnancy. At two pediatric primary care sites, a continuous retrospective cohort reported 150 teens with a positive pregnancy test (July 2015 to May 2017). The majority of teens were non-Latina black (91%) and Medicaid insured (71%). Postpregnancy visits were related to teen age and pregnancy outcome. Gaps persisted in pediatric clinical follow-up after pregnancy in a primary care cohort of pregnant teens. Pregnancy has also prompted a transition away from pediatric care, especially in circumstances where pregnancy led to a birth.
