Pre-surgical chemotherapy for breast cancer may be associated with improved outcomes
The American Journal of Surgery Mar 21, 2018
Cook M, et al. - A retrospective review of the neoadjuvant approach in breast cancer patients was conducted. Excellent response rates with neoadjuvant therapy were observed. Although greater than 50% of patients underwent axillary dissection, 38% percent with positive nodes converted to node negative. A need for axillary dissection could be reduced with higher utilization of neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The treatment could thus lower the incidence of lymphedema and improve the quality of life for survivors.
