Pre-operative localization of impalpable breast lesions using iodine 125 seeds: Placement accuracy and multidisciplinary challenges
Clinical Imaging Dec 25, 2020
Frost R, Reed AJ, Dessauvagie BF, et al. - This study sought to assess the multidisciplinary team's experience following the introduction of ROLLIS as the standard of care for PLL, find challenges, and analyze seed placement accuracy (SPA). In this study, 327 seeds were inserted over a nineteen-month period: 96% of single seed localizations were within 10 mm, 91% within 5 mm, and 42% within or in contact with the lesion (or marker clip surrogate) on post-insertion two-view mammography. As per the findings, ROLLIS results in highly accurate seed placement. Use of ROLLIS presents some multidisciplinary challenges, despite clear advantages. There is a need for robust patient information, training of new staff, and adherence to strict policies and protocols to ensure the safe delivery of a ROLLIS program.
