Pre-operative glycemic control predicts peri-operative serum glucose levels in patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty

Journal of Arthroplasty Mar 02, 2018

Godshaw B, et al. - In diabetic patients undergoing total joint arthroplasty (TJA), researchers investigated the link between pre-operative hemoglobin-A1c (A1c) and postoperative hyperglycemia. Findings demonstrated a correlation between pre-operative hemoglobin A1c levels and the post-operative glucose levels. For subjects undergoing TJA, an A1c cutoff of 7.45% was recommended. Caution ought to be exercised in cases with raised A1c levels undergoing TJA.
