BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth Aug 03, 2020
Nahaee J, Abbas-Alizadeh F, Mirghafourvand M, et al. - Researchers investigated the predictive factors of labor dystocia (LD) using an integrated and collaborative pre- and during- labor factors to aid formulating more effective intervention strategies for prevention and management of LD. They conducted a case-control study including 350 women with LD and 350 matched women without LD. Analysis revealed following as the predictors of LD: severe and moderate anxiety, woman dehydration > 3 h and ≤ 3 h, insufficient support by the medical staff in the delivery room, remifentanil administration, labor induction, low income, woman’s height < 160 cm, and woman age of 16–20 y. All these factors explained 74% of the variance. These findings suggest a significant role of responding to woman physical, psychological, and supportive needs during labor in LD prevention and control.
