Potential years lost and life expectancy in adults with newly diagnosed epilepsy

Granbichler CA, et al. - The researchers performed this study to describe potential years lost and how life expectancy has changed over 40 years in a cohort of patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy. They concluded that in symptomatic epilepsies, life expectancy was reduced. However, a prolonged life expectancy was found in other subgroups, which was not reported previously. Reasons could be manifold and call for further study.
