Potential risk factors associated with the development of synechiae following functional endoscopic sinus surgery
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology Apr 17, 2018
Manji J, et al. - Researchers ascertained the incidence of synechiae occurring in a cohort of patients that underwent functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) and identified the characteristics related to the development of synechiae postoperatively. Findings demonstrated that greatest odds of developing postoperative synechiae were seen in the patients who underwent primary FESS and nasal septal reconstruction (NSR). The likelihood of developing synechiae with a sensitivity of 68%, specificity of 73%, positive predictive value of 38% and likelihood ratio of 2.5 was identified with a multivariable logistic regression model adjusting for NSR, recurrent FESS, concha bullosa, the requirement of anterior and posterior ethmoidectomy, Lund-Mackay CT score and gender.
