Potential biomarkers in patients with systemic sclerosis
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases Oct 17, 2017
Sedie AD, et al. - An inquiry was set up with regard to the mediators regulating angiogenesis in SSc. This study also resolved to associate their levels with serological and clinical parameters. The findings displayed the possible involvement of endostatin, elastase and the soluble adhesion molecules (sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1) in the pathogenesis of SSc. The disclosed, prominent link between sICAM-1 and C-reactive protein (CRP) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) pointed out that sICAM-1 could serve as a beneficial biomarker of the inflammatory state of the disease.
