Potassium and the use of renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system inhibitors in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction: Data from BIOSTAT-CHF
European Journal of Heart Failure Apr 20, 2018
Beusekamp JC, et al. - Researchers evaluated the link between potassium and uptitration of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi)/angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB) and its connection with outcome. Using data for patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) from the BIOSTAT-CHF study, this study focused on a composite of all-cause mortality and heart failure hospitalization at 2-years. Higher potassium levels were identified as an independent predictor of enduring lower dosages of ACEi/ARB. The benefits of ACEi/ARB uptitration were not reduced by the presence of higher potassium levels.
