Posttraumatic stress disorder in patients after severe COVID-19 infection
JAMA Psychiatry May 14, 2021
Janiri D, Carfì A, Kotzalidis GD, et al. - For individuals who have experienced a traumatic event, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may occur. In post-illness stages, previous coronavirus epidemics were correlated with PTSD diagnoses, with meta-analytic findings demonstrating a prevalence of 32.2% (95% CI, 23.7-42.0). Nevertheless, information after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is piecemeal. Researchers intended at filling this gap by studying a group of individuals with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) who sought treatment at the emergency department, most of whom needed hospitalization, eventually recovered, and were subsequently referred to a postacute care service for multidisciplinary assessment.
