Postprandial glucose-lowering effect of premeal consumption of protein-enriched, dietary fiber-fortified bar in subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus or normal glucose tolerance
Journal of Diabetes Investigation Mar 29, 2018
Bae JH, et al. - In patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) or normal glucose tolerance (NGT), authors coveted an assessment of the postprandial glucose-lowering effect of premeal protein-enriched, dietary fiber-fortified bar (PFB), which contained moderate amounts of protein in those who underwent two mixed meal tolerance tests (MMTTs). Data displayed that postprandial glucose excursion was decreased due to acute administration of premeal PFB in both T2D and NGT patients. It was noted that premeal PFB augmented the early-phase insulin secretion, possibly by enhancing glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) secretion in T2D subjects.
