Postpartum salpingectomy compared with standard tubal ligation after vaginal delivery
Obstetrics and Gynecology Feb 24, 2021
Wagar MK, Godecker A, Landeros MV, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of operative outcomes of postpartum salpingectomy and tubal ligation after vaginal delivery. This retrospective cohort study led to identification of 317 eligible patients who underwent tubal sterilization. A bipolar electrocautery device was used to complete 106 (94%) salpingectomies. Per findings, completion of bilateral salpingectomy can be done in the immediate postpartum period after vaginal delivery when using electrocautery, with equivalent operative times to bilateral tubal ligation.
