Postpartum HIV care continuum outcomes in the southeastern USA
AIDS Mar 09, 2019
Chen JS, et al. - Researchers performed a prospective clinical cohort study of women with HIV and a live birth at the University of North Carolina, 1996–2014, to assess postpartum HIV care outcomes. Two stages of the HIV care continuum in the first 24 months postpartum were determined: care retention (at least two visits per year, ≥90 days apart) and viral suppression (HIV RNA < 400 copies/ml). Outcomes suggest a substantial decrease in HIV care continuum outcomes postpartum. Younger women and those with less antenatal HIV care were less tended to successfully engaged in HIV care following childbirth.
