Postoperative radiation therapy vs observation for pN1 oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma
Head & Neck Oct 11, 2019
Suresh K, et al. - Researchers conducted a cohort study of the National Cancer Database to examine the impact of postoperative radiotherapy (PORT) on pN1 oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC) patients without other adverse characteristics. The study sample consisted of 1,909 patients (898 received PORT). Patients receiving inadequate and adequate neck dissections had similar benefits. Compared with patients with smaller metastases, those with > 10 mm LN metastasis derived greater benefit. The size of the LN metastases may predict benefit from PORT in pN1 OCSCC without other adverse features, whereas the adequacy of the neck dissection may not.
