Postoperative pain and 14-day recovery in children undergoing adenotonsillectomy: Low thermal damage device vs electrosurgery

ENT Journal Apr 09, 2019

Blake KV, et al. - In this randomized controlled trial, researchers studied the outcomes of low thermal damage device vs traditional electrosurgery in children of age 3-17 years with a clinical investigation of sleep-disordered breathing, obstructive sleep apnea with adenotonsillar hypertrophy, or recurrent adenotonsillitis. No difference was noticed in the rate of decrease in pain scores. They observed a higher median number of pain medication doses with electrosurgery when compared with a low thermal device. They reported the achievement of pain scores at 0 after a median of 7 days for low thermal device vs 9 days for electrosurgery.
