Postoperative outcomes following total hip and knee arthroplasty in patients with pain catastrophizing, anxiety or depression
Journal of Arthroplasty Feb 14, 2021
Wood TJ, Gazendam AM, Kabali CB, et al. - Researchers used the Pain Catastrophizing Scale, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale in this prospective cohort analysis to assess the links among pain catastrophizing, emotional disorders, and one-year postoperative pain and functional outcomes after total joint arthroplasty (TJA). This analysis involved 463 TJA patients who were observed for 1 year. Findings revealed inferior preoperative as well as postoperative pain and function in TJA patients who were anxious, depressed or catastrophized pain. However, relative to their preoperative status, they can expect clinically significant improvement following hip/knee arthroplasty.
