Postoperative morbidity and mortality after neoadjuvant chemotherapy vs upfront surgery for locally advanced gastric cancer: A propensity score matching analysis
Cancer Management and Research Jul 10, 2019
Wu L, et al. - In this study including patients who underwent gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy for advanced gastric cancer, researchers compared neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) to upfront surgery (SURG) in terms of postoperative morbidity and mortality. Overall participants were 377. In each group, 86 patients were matched, following propensity score matching. The factors that showed no relation to postoperative complications in univariate and multivariate of the matched cohort were sex, age (<70), BMI (<24), ASA grade, surgical procedure (open vs laparoscopy), gastrectomy extent, cTNM and Charlson index comorbidity. For NAC group and SURG group, similar outcomes were reported as far as postoperative morbidity and mortality were concerned.
