Postoperative hormonal treatment for prevention of endometrioma recurrence after ovarian cystectomy: A systematic review and network meta‐analysis
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Jul 19, 2020
Wattanayingcharoenchai R, Rattanasiri S, Charakorn C, et al. - In view of the controversial findings regarding the efficacy of hormonal regimens for the prevention of endometrioma recurrence in women who have undergone conservative surgery, researchers sought to compare the efficacy of different hormonal regimens and to rank them. Searching MEDLINE and Scopus databases through January 2020, they included six RCTs (675 patients) and 16 cohorts (3,089 patients). This network meta‐analysis (NMA) of RCTs yielded no evidence supporting hormonal treatment for postoperative prevention of endometrioma recurrence. This was at odds with the cohort evidence, which indicated oral contraceptives and progestin regimens, especially long‐term treatment, as protective.
