Postoperative hemorrhage following coblation tonsillectomy with and without suture: A randomized study in Chinese adults
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Oct 26, 2020
Liu Q, , et al. - Given a gradual increase in coblation tonsillectomy (TE) in China, researchers sought to compare the rates of post-tonsillectomy hemorrhage (PTH), the main complication after tonsillectomy, in patients who underwent coblation with vs without suture. They conducted a randomized controlled study of adult patients undergoing coblation TE between January 2017 and August 2019. The participants were randomized to TE with or without suture. Outcomes revealed reduced secondary PTH in adult patients who underwent coblation tonsillectomy with intraoperative suture. Improvement in the incidence of PTH within 4 weeks, PTH degree and pain might occur in correlation with using intraoperative suture.
