Karatzanis AD, et al. - This trial aimed to investigate the efficacy of first postoperative day parathyroid hormone (PTH) measurement for predicting the presence and severity of postthyroidectomy hypocalcaemia. Researchers displayed that serum PTH levels on the first postoperative day could serve as a reliable predictive marker for calcium supplementation need and even prolonged hospitalization in subjects undergoing total thyroidectomy.
