Postoperative D-dimer predicts venous thromboembolism in patients undergoing urologic tumor surgery
Urologic Oncology: Seminars and Original Investigations Mar 31, 2018
Shi A, et al. - The postoperative D-dimer for prediction of venous thromboembolism events (VTE) was investigated. They also identified other risk factors related to the occurrence of thromboembolisms. A similar incidence of urologic-tumor-surgery-associated VTE in an Asian population and European and North American series was found. In patients who underwent urologic tumor surgery, elevated D-dimer early following operation was an independent predictor of VTE. Also, both hypertension and the Charlson comorbidity index were important clinical risk factors. In this study population, the Caprini score recommended by the guideline was seen to be inadequate. Findings suggested the postoperative D-dimer plasma level to be a more reliable marker for the identification of patients at high-risk of developing venous thromboembolisms.
