Postoperative complications after elective coronary artery bypass grafting surgery in patients with sleep-disordered breathing
Clinical Research in Cardiology Jun 16, 2018
Tafelmeier M, et al. - Researchers assessed the length of hospital stay, as well as postoperative cardiac, respiratory, and renal complications after elective coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients without sleep-disordered breathing (SDB), with central sleep apnea, or with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). They ascertained the presence and type of SDB with polygraphic recordings in 100 patients the night prior to elective CABG surgery. Findings revealed prolonged length of hospital stay (LOS) after CABG in association with SDB, especially OSA. In patients with SDB, increased postoperative hemodynamic instability due to any cause may result in this prolonged LOS.
