Postoperative cognitive dysfunction after robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with cerebral oxygen monitoring: An observational prospective cohort pilot study
BMC Anesthesiology Nov 15, 2019
Li Y, et al. - Researchers determined the incidence rate and likely risk factors of postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) in robot-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with cerebral oxygen monitoring in this prospective observational analysis. This study involved patients who had RARC and open abdominal surgery in horizontal positioning. They analyzed arterial blood gas, S-100β, C-reactive protein (CRP), and cognitive dysfunction scales, both prior to and after the operation. The analysis and comprehensive assessment of POCD were done by using Z score. The RARC group included 24 patients and the control group comprised of 23 patients. Neither a significant rise in the incidence of POCD and nor excessive perfusion were caused by RARC in extreme Trendelenburg positioning and pneumoperitoneum. The factors that might independently confer risk for POCD were the inflammation marker CRP and age.
