Postoperative change in wideband absorbance after tympanoplasty in chronic suppurative otitis media
Auris Nasus Larynx Sep 06, 2019
Park HW, et al. - By involving 98 adults (128 ears) with normal TM and 40 patients (40 ears) who were diagnosed with chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) and had tympanoplasty type 1, researchers identified the wideband absorbance (WBA) of reconstructed TM comparing with perforated and normal TM, and examined the effectiveness of WBA to anticipate the postoperative hearing outcome. Before and 6 and 12 months after surgery, pure tone audiometry and WBA were measured. Finally, all the tests were completed by just 29 patients in the CSOM group. According to findings, WBA was significantly different from normal TM in patients with CSOM and a significant change in WBA was noted following tympanoplasty with air-bone gaps improvement. WBA can be a helpful instrument to monitor postoperative change in sound energy absorbance in the middle ear.
