Obesity Surgery Aug 19, 2018
Juo YY, et al. - Using a national bariatric registry data from 2015, researchers performed a retrospective cohort study investigating the risk factors and impact of non-index readmissions on short-term mortality during bariatric patients readmission. They identified a total of 4704 patients as undergoing bariatric surgery and readmitted within 30 days. Outcomes revealed increased 30-day mortality during readmissions following bariatric surgery in relation to care fragmentation. For patients with elevated risk for venous thromboembolism, heightened vigilance and longitudinal follow-up planning are recommended.
