Postconcussive symptoms over the first 14 days after mild traumatic brain injury: An Experience Sampling Study

Journal of Head Trauma Rehabilitation May 18, 2018

Pacella M, et al. - Researchers evaluated changes in post-concussive symptoms (PCS) over the acute postinjury recovery period, concentrating on how daily PCSs differ between mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and other injury types. For this study, 108 adult patients with trauma being discharged from the emergency department (ED) were selected. They reported that patients with head injury (HI), regardless of whether they meet the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicines definition of mTBI, had higher odds of typical PCS immediately post-injury, yet faster rates of recovery vs non-head-injured trauma controls. They suggested that experience sampling method (ESM) could improve understanding the dynamic nature of postinjury PCS.
