Post partum and non-post partum relapsing Graves' hyperthyroidism display different response to anti-thyroid drugs
European Journal of Endocrinology Mar 31, 2018
Rotondi M, et al. - Experts comparatively examined the Graves' disease (GD) in patients undergoing a relapse of hyperthyroidism either in the post-partum (PP) period (ie within 12 months after delivery) or not after a full course of methimazole (MMI) therapy. The remission rate appeared to be higher in the PP group. Yielded data exhibited that individuals with relapsing Graves' hyperthyroidism in the PP period were more prone to undergo a remission after the second course of MMI treatment. A conservative therapeutic approach was recommended as being more appropriate in such patients.
