Post-operative outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation vs circular external fixation in treatment of tibial plafond fractures: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Injury May 25, 2020
Malik-Tabassum K, Pillai K, Hussain Y, et al. - A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted to compare post-operative complications and functional outcomes of open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) vs circular external fixation (CEF) for treatment of tibial plafond fractures (TPF). Researchers carried out to comprehensive search of PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus and Cochrane library. They included all studies published in English language comparing ORIF with CEF for treatment of TPF. This study enrolled 5 comparative studies including with 239 fractures. For surgical management of TPF, it was noted that CEF and ORIF are both acceptable treatment options, with comparable post-operative complication rates and functional outcomes. This study's findings demonstrate paucity of high-quality evidence regarding the optimal fixation method for TPF.
