Post-operative intensive care unit admission after elective non-cardiac surgery: A single-center analysis of the NSQIP database
Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Feb 13, 2020
Bruceta M, et al. - In patients undergoing elective noncardiac surgery, researchers identified perioperative factors correlated with postoperative intensive care unit (ICU) admission by analyzing data from the ACS NSQIP database at a tertiary care academic medical center from January 2011 to September 2016. Of 5,254 database patient records, 1,150 met the criteria for inclusion. According to this observational cohort study, admission to the ICU is common after elective non-cardiac surgery. Findings suggested an association of elevated BMI, longer procedure duration and a diagnosis of disseminated cancer with postoperative ICU admission.
