Post–acute kidney injury proteinuria and subsequent kidney disease progression: The assessment, serial evaluation, and subsequent sequelae in acute kidney injury (assess-aki) study
JAMA Feb 03, 2020
Hsu CY, Chinchilli VM, Coca S, et al. - A multicenter prospective cohort study was performed to investigate the correlation of post-acute kidney injury (AKI) proteinuria with improved risk of future loss of renal function. Between December 2009 and February 2015, researchers designed a multicenter prospective cohort study including 4 clinical centers in North America enrolling 1,538 individuals. They quantified the urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio (ACR) 3 months after hospital discharge. In the post-AKI period, the proteinuria level is an important risk-stratification tool. After hospitalized AKI, the data demonstrate that there should be more widespread and routine quantification of proteinuria.
