Positive impact of genetic test on the management and outcome of patients with paraganglioma and/or pheochromocytoma

Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism Mar 07, 2019

Buffet A, et al. - To know the impact of the positive genetic test on the management and consequence of subjects with SDHx or VHL-related pheochromocytomas and paragangliomas (PPGLs), researchers analyzed the data. A better follow-up among genetic candidates was observed as compared to the historic cases with a higher number of examinations and a decreased number of patients lost to follow-up (9.6% vs 72%, respectively). They reported smaller new PPGLs and metastases, as well as a lower metastatic spread in genetic patients during follow-up. They concluded a better 5-year survival rate among genetic subjects who developed metachronous metastases than historic patients.
