Positive association of alcohol consumption with incidence of hypertension in adults aged 40 years and over: Use of repeated alcohol consumption measurements
Clinical Nutrition Feb 06, 2020
Jung S, Kim MK, Shin J, et al. - Among 4,989 Korean adults aged 40 and over who were not taking antihypertensive drugs and had normal BP (systolic < 140 mmHg and diastolic < 90 mmHg), researchers studied the prospective connection between repeated measures of alcohol consumption and hypertension incidence. Three measures of alcohol consumption (baseline, most recent, and average) as exposures were used and contrasted the three approaches. Five hundred seventy-four cases of hypertension cases were reported over a total of 17,689 person-years. Alcohol consumption, particularly consuming ≥ 30ml/d, can be positively associated with incidence risk of hypertension among men. There was no important connection between alcohol consumption and hypertension among women, and there was no interaction impact on the incidence of hypertension between alcohol consumption and baseline BP levels.
