Population level predictors of changes in success rates of smoking quit attempts in England: A time series analysis
Addiction Oct 25, 2019
Beard E, et al. - Researchers sought to estimate the associations between the success of smoking quit attempts and factors that have varied across 2007-2018 at a population level via performing time series analysis using ARIMAX modeling. From the Smoking Toolkit Study which involves monthly repeated cross-sectional household surveys of individuals aged 16+ in England, data of 54,847 past-year smokers were retrieved. The analysis revealed higher success rates of quit attempts in correlation with licensing of nicotine replacement therapy for use in harm reduction, greater use of e-cigarettes and prescription medications during a quit attempt and higher expenditure on tobacco control mass media.
