Population-based study of the sensitivity of axillary ultrasound imaging in the preoperative staging of node-positive invasive lobular carcinoma of the breast
British Journal of Surgery Apr 11, 2018
Morrow E, et al. - In view of the significance of preoperative staging of the axilla for making decisions regarding neoadjuvant treatment and the management of the axilla, researchers compared the sensitivity of preoperative axillary staging between invasive lobular (ILC) and ductal (IDC) carcinoma. They identified axillary ultrasound imaging (AUS) as inferior in detecting axillary node metastasis in ILC compared with IDC. An ultrasound-guided axillary biopsy may benefit women with cT3–4 lobular carcinoma regardless of the ultrasonographic appearance of the nodes.
