Poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma of the head and neck: HPV tumor status / p16 status and impact on overall survival
Histopathology Sep 10, 2019
Benzerdjeb N, et al. - All cases of poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma (PDNEC) of the head and neck between 1998 and 2019 were recognized from the database of the Lyon university hospital pathology department (n = 21) in order to assess their potential clinicopathological correlations, and their prognostic impact on overall survival in PDNECs of the head and neck, despite the subtypes of HPV. The HPV+ tumor status was discovered to be significantly correlated with oropharyngeal localization and p16+. Multivariate analysis, adjusted on tumor site, histological subtype, p16 status, HPV status and source of the case, discovered that oropharyngeal localization and small cell variant were important predictors of worse overall survival and HPV+ tumor status was related to better overall survival. Thus, HPV+ tumor status was related to oropharyngeal PDNECs and with a better prognosis.
