Poor prognostic and staging value of tumor deposit in locally advanced rectal cancer with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy
Cancer Medicine Mar 06, 2019
Wang Y, et al. - Investigators evaluated the influence of tumor deposit (TD) on N staging in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) following neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (neo-CRT). They observed an association of TD-positive cases with more aggressive clinicopathological characteristics. They recorded TD as an independent poor prognostic factor of overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), and local recurrence-free survival in all patients in multivariate analyses. They also found TD, an independent poor prognostic factor of OS, DFS and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) in lymph node (LN)-negative patients. Hence, they concluded TD, an independent poor prognostic factor in subjects with LARC following neo-CRT, particularly in subjects with single positive LN.
