Poor physical activity levels and cardiorespiratory fitness among patients with childhood-onset takayasu arteritis in remission: A cross‐sectional, multicenter study
Pediatric Rheumatology Mar 30, 2021
Astley C, Gil S, Clemente G, et al. - Researchers conducted this multicenter, cross-sectional study to evaluate physical activity levels and cardiorespiratory fitness along with the health-related quality of life (HRQL) and various traditional and non-traditional risk factors in patients with childhood-onset Takayasu disease (c-TA) compared with healthy controls. The study included 17 c-TA patients with non-active disease and 17 age- and sex-matched healthy controls. In comparison to healthy peers, c-TA patients had lower levels of physical activity and aerobic capacity, as well as worse cardiometabolic risk factors and HRQL parameters. Physical inactivity and aerobic deconditioning appear to be novel risk factors for c-TA. The role of physical activity interventions in preventing poor outcomes and improving HRQL in c-TA is still being investigated.
