Polyneuropathy in severely obese women without diabetes: Prevalence and associated factors
Obesity Surgery Dec 12, 2018
Dias LS, et al. - In order to determine factors associated with the presence of polyneuropathy (PNP) in subjects with severe (grades II and III) obesity and without DM, researchers evaluated the prevalence of PNP in severely obese (SO) women without DM or common nutritional deficiencies. In this cross-sectional study, 450 SO women were evaluated with the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument, a Sleep Apnea Questionnaire, and the short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Findings revealed a high prevalence of PNP even prior to bariatric surgery, and its association with postmenopausal status and age in SO women without diabetes.
