Polygenic scores for major depressive disorder and risk of alcohol dependence

Andersen AM, et al. – Using a polygenic score approach, the aim of this study was to investigate whether alcohol dependence (AD) and major depressive disorder (MDD) overlap genetically. The results of this study showed that shared genetic susceptibility contributed modestly to MDD and AD comorbidity. The findings suggested that individuals with elevated polygenic risk for MDD could also be at risk for AD.
