Polo-like kinase 3 is associated with poor prognosis and regulates proliferation and metastasis in prostate cancer
Cancer Management and Research Feb 22, 2019
Lin C, et al. - Researchers explored the role of polo-like kinase (Plk) 3 in prostate cancer (PCa) via Kaplan–Meier analysis and Cox regression analysis. They assessed the link between Plk3 and prognosis of patients with PCa. In gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA), they used The Cancer Genome Atlas Dataset and assessed proliferation and metastasis gene sets. The biological functions of Plk3 were determined using MTS assay, clone formation assay, cell migration, and wound healing assay. A close correlation was observed between high Plk3 expression and poor prognosis. The involvement of Plk3 in proliferation and metastasis was shown in GSEA. In vitro, Plk3 was identified as a promoter of proliferation and metastasis in PCa cells. Overall, a critical role of Plk3 in PCa was suggested.
