Point-of-care ultrasound for the diagnosis of skull fractures in children younger than 2 years of age
The Journal of Pediatrics Mar 06, 2018
Parri N, et al. - Herein experts attempted to investigate the accuracy of skull point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) for detecting fractures in children younger than 2 years of age with signs of head trauma. Additionally, they contemplated the ability of POCUS to determine the type and depth of fracture depression. Findings revealed that POCUS performed by emergency physicians could detect the type and depth of fractures in infants with local physical signs of head trauma with significant accuracy. Data recommended that the emergency physicians ought to take into account the POCUS as an adjunct for clinical analysis and for the prediction of rules for traumatic brain injuries in children younger than 2 years of age.
