Point‐of‐care creatinine measurements to predict acute kidney injury

Acta Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica Apr 21, 2020

Vaara ST, Glassford N, Eastwood GM, et al. - By performing a retrospective database audit in a single tertiary ICU database, researchers investigated whether creatinine (Cr) assessed by point‐of‐care technology early post-ICU admission would afford a good predictor of acute kidney injury (AKI) the next day in critically ill patients. This study involved patients with normal first admission Cr. A Cr value (CrP) obtained within 6‐12 hours from ICU admission was also identified. Overall 780 patients were examined. Findings revealed that the prediction of AKI the following day in patients admitted with normal Cr was aided by early alterations in Cr.
