Pneumonia in patients with cirrhosis: Risk factors associated with mortality and predictive value of prognostic models
Respiratory Research Dec 08, 2018
Xu L, et al. - The researchers examined the recognizable risk factors of mortality and optimized that stratification was crucial for improving the survival rate in this retrospective study. Demographical, clinical and laboratory parameters, severity models and prognosis were recorded in 203 cirrhotic patients affected of pneumonia. Cases with nosocomial acquired or community-acquired pneumonia were found triggered with acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF)and highly increased mortality. The results obtained concluded that age, bacteremia, white blood cell count (WBC), total bilirubin and inappropriate empirical antibiotic therapy were independently linked with increased mortality. It was also observed that pneumonia triggered ACLF prominently elevated mortality.
