Platinum single-agent vs platinum-based doublet agent concurrent chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced cervical cancer: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Gynecologic Oncology Apr 25, 2019
Ma S, et al. - In this systematic review and cumulative meta-analysis of seven randomized trials including 1503 patients, researchers compared radiotherapy (RT) with concurrent platinum-based doublet therapy vs RT plus platinum single-agent therapy, in terms of progression-free survival, overall survival, and the occurrence of adverse events, in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer. The included studies were identified from Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Web, Wanfang Database, and VIP database. They used the fixed-effect or random-effect models. Under the premise of good tolerance, improved survival was observed in relation to RT plus platinum-based doublet therapy vs RT plus platinum single-agent therapy in this patient populace. In the polychemotherapy arm, a frequent occurrence of grade 3 or 4 vomiting and thrombocytopenia was noted.
