Platelet-rich plasma injections in the treatment of male androgenetic alopecia: A randomized placebo-controlled crossover study
Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology Sep 26, 2019
Dicle O, et al. - In the treatment of male androgenetic alopecia (AGA), researchers compared the effectiveness and safety of physically activated platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections compared with placebo. The study sample consisted of 25 healthy male AGA patients with the treatments of PRP and placebo. The data presented in this work showed a significant increase in hair density at the secondary endpoints after PRP treatment in the group that received placebo first (Group 2). This group had a higher proportion of low-grade alopecia patients compared with Group 1. This randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover study offers information supporting the beneficial impacts of PRP therapy on male AGA, but further studies are required to define those variables that may influence the efficiency of PRP therapy, such as the stage of the disease.
