Platelet activity measured by VerifyNow Aspirin sensitivity test identifies coronary artery bypass surgery patients at increased risk for postoperative bleeding and transfusion

Chatterton S, et al. - In this prospective pilot study performed on 61 patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting surgery from 2009 to 2013, researchers investigated if an increased risk of bleeding and transfusion could be seen among patients who hyper-responded to aspirin administered preoperatively, as detected by VerifyNow Aspirin assay (Accumetrics, Inc., San Diego, California, USA). Findings revealed that the detection of aspirin hyper-responders who were at an increased risk of bleeding and subsequent transfusion was possible during the preoperative period with the help of VerifyNow Aspirin.
